Sri Lanka's indigenous people, the Veddha, live an existence little changed for the past 1,000 years. This 10-Day Sri Lanka Adventure includes the unique opportunity to meet this fascinating and ancient people and see how they live. The tour takes in misty mountainous highlands, cascading water falls, lush tea plantations and jaw-dropping views. It includes a night at world-famous Trincomalee on Sri Lanka's undiscovered east coast with miles of deserted beaches.

Ayubowan, welcome to Sri Lanka! Upon touching down at Bandaranayake international airport your driver will be waiting to transfer to your beach hotel in Negombo so you can enjoy a relaxing evening by the sea..

Day 1 Sigiriya


After a short briefing about the tour our first stop is the Negombo fish market & Dutch fort. Then we head to Sigiriya rock fortress and Dambulla cave temple.  After seeing these heritage sites, we arrive to spend the night in Habarana where an elephant ride is waiting for those who want to try it.

Day 2 Trinco

On day two we get back on our “horses” for the ride to Trincomalee, the world's most famous deep-water natural harbour. The road passes through dense forest where you can see wild elephants, mongoose, peacocks and water monitor lizards. After riding for 150km we stop on the outskirts of Trinco to visit the famous hot springs at Kinniyar. Suitably refreshed, we arrive at our beautiful beach resort at Nilaweli before a fun boat ride to Pigeon Island. The evening is spent relaxing.

Day 3 Polonnaruwa

In the morning we load the bikes onto the ferry from Trinco to Mutur for a stunning cruise across this famous harbour. Passing through an area that was formerly off-limits to foreigners because of fierce fighting between army and LTTE fighters, we pass through beautiful "Passikuddah" & Kalkudah Beach where there is time for a swim in the beautiful tropical sea.. As dusk falls we reach historic Polonnaruwa, seat of the 2nd Kingdom of Sri Lanka where we spend the night.

 

Day 4 Mahiyangana.

After breakfast we saddle up & ride to the citadel of King Parakramabahu the great in Polonnaruwa. Most of the morning will be given over to seeing the various historic sights including the beautiful carved Buddhist statues of Gal Vihara. Leaving the ancient city we head south to Dambana, ancient home of Sri Lanka's indigenous Veddah people. As the sun sets we enjoy traditional Veddah dancing and food & drink before retiring to our hotel.

Day 5 Knuckles Range In the early morning we walk to “Sorabora” Lake to see the sunrise & enjoy bird watching & trekking to see the cascading "Rathna Ella" waterfalls. Then we get back on the bikes & head to awesome Knuckles mountain range in Corbett’s Gap. After reaching Corbett’s Gap we visit Meemure Rural Village & meet indigenous people. This is an opportunity to experience life in the ancient isolated village of Meemure.  The village is situated deep in the Knuckles Wilderness where the local people have maintained their traditional attitudes to their culture and Nature..  They rely on the forest for their survival and gain as much as 63% of their total income from the forest resources.

Day 6 Kandy

This is the most exciting day for you s we take an unforgettable off-road jungle ride through Knuckles Mountains to Rangala Rural Village & stay overnight in Kandy. After lunch we get back on the bikes for an off-road ride to a tea plantation. Tucked higher up in the Knuckle’s Range, the plantation is one of the more remote ones in Sri Lanka. The ride is challenging but short and you’ll be rewarded with fabulous views and an insightful tour at the tea plantation.

Day 7 rest day (no bikes today)

Today is a day to rest and enjoy the delights of this ancient and fascinating city. In the evening we visit the Temple of the Tooth and enjoy a traditional Kandyan dancing show.

Day 8 Nuwara eliya

After breakfast we saddle up and set off on the back roads for the long climb up to Nuwara eliya near the top of Sri Lanka's Highlands. We ride along gravel and dirt tracks through tea estates and factories with stunning views of waterfalls and mountains. In the afternoon there is a chance to explore the city known as Little England and Victoria Park with its rare birds.

 

Day 9 Kithulgala

Having climbed up to the climax of the Nuwara eliya, we descend to Thalawakelle where two cascading waterfalls are situated. There is time for a refreshing cup of tea while admiring the beautiful views. We head on to Kithulgala where the famous film Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed. This is the most famous white-water rafting place in Sri Lanka and there is time to enjoy rafting and canyoning for a last adrenalin rush. Rafting down the Kelani River is under the guidance of expert paddlers and includes class three rapids followed by a dip in the river. Night in Kithulaga.

Day 10 Negombo

After breakfast we prepare for the last day ride of our wonderful journey. Today's highlights include riding through rubber, pineapple and spice plantations. After reaching Negombo we drive to Sha Lanka tour base & return the bikes & transfer you to your hotel on the beach.

Departure

Today is a chance to relax on the beach or do some last-minute shopping in Negombo followed by a farewell dinner. Hopefully you will have had the trip of a lifetime and made new life-long friends. We transfer you to the airport for your flight home.
